There are several virtual (online) network operators in France. We made a list of them for you to keep use your cell phones in France. Those contracts are without engagement. As a resul, it could be very convenient for short or long term students like you (one semester or one year).
Before doing anything be sure that your mobile phone is not locked (SIMlocked)
You can only subscribe online and get your SIM card by mail except for Free; you can go on the shop "Univers Free" and buy your new french SIM card (looking for it on our map !). If you need help to translate the websites just ask a member of Globe&Co!
